Lipostructure^®

While liposuction, the surgical removal of unwanted fat deposits from certain areas of the body, has been around for many years, a procedure designed to re-introduce that fat to the body as an anti-aging technique is much more recent. Pioneered by New York plastic surgeon, Dr. Sydney Coleman, Lipostructure^® relies on injections of tiny droplets of fat to restore more youthful contours to the face which are lost through aging. Dr. Greco has incorporated Lipostructure^® into his practice and has been successfully utilizing this therapy for several years. It has become an important part in treating the aging face, including the nasolabial folds and marionette folds, which ultimately compliment the face lift result. It has also become a popular method to naturally augment the lips. As we age, the fat deposits, muscle, and connective tissues in our cheeks, chin, jaws, and forehead diminish leaving skin sagging and unsupported. Lipostructure^® helps replace and redistribute that lost fat giving the face the plump, fuller appearance associated with youth.

In the past, fat transfer was controversial because the harvested fat was fragile and usually short-lived. In the late 1980's, Dr. Coleman devised a method of harvesting the body's fat by using a small cannula. A delicate instrument was then used to re-inject tiny droplets of the fat into the body instead of placing it in large lumps.

Lipostructure^® is now used to enhance lips, fill in hollowness around the eyes, strengthen jaw lines, and fill in cheeks and nasolabial folds. By using the patient's own fat, there is no risk of allergic reactions or rejections by the body. The deeply embedded fat does not shift or migrate. The procedure lasts longer than traditional fat transfer, and appears to have the more long lasting effects. Though more time consuming than collagen injections, Lipostructure^® is more cost effective due to its long lasting results.
