What Is Facial Cosmetic Surgery?
At the Eastern Cosmetic Surgery Institute in Philadelphia, we offer facial cosmetic plastic surgery. What, exactly, does this mean? Facial plastic surgery is a branch of medicine involved with improving form of the face while preserving function. General plastic surgery refers to cosmetic or reconstructive procedures performed on any area of the body, whereas regional aesthetic/cosmetic surgery refers to cosmetic procedures performed on a specific area of the body.
Many specialties – general plastic surgery, dermatology, ophthalmology, and maxillofacial surgery – have contributed to the advancement of facial cosmetic surgery, and these physicians perform some or all facial plastic procedures. Facial cosmetic and reconstructive surgery is a main subspecialty of otolaryngology (head and neck surgery). When training for board certification in otolaryngology, physicians concentrate on the complex anatomy, physiology, and pathology of the face, head, and neck, enabling them to become uniquely qualified to perform surgery on this region of the body.
Further intense training can be obtained by pursuing a fellowship in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery. An accredited fellowship is the highest level of training a physician can obtain in a particular field of medicine.
Dr. Greco has completed the highest level of education and training available in his field. In medical school, he specialized in head and neck surgery. Following residency training, he completed a fellowship in facial plastic surgery, accredited by the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, at the internationally renowned McCollough Plastic Surgery Clinic in Birmingham, Alabama.
