Facial Liposuction
Facial fat typically accumulates under the chin and in the jowls. Common causes include aging, weight gain, or heredity. If you are concerned about excess fat in your face, chin, or neck area, Dr. Timothy M. Greco offers facial liposuction in Philadelphia to help you accentuate your facial bone structure and put your best face forward.
Facial liposuction can create an aesthetically pleasing profile by improving the angle between the chin and the neck and accentuating the outline of the jaw. Facial liposuction can also complement other cosmetic procedures such as face lifting or facial augmentation (including chin implants and rhinoplasty). It is not appropriate to perform facial liposuction if the excess fat in the neck and jowls is due to weight gain. However, following general weight reduction, this procedure is appropriate for areas resistant to weight loss.
Dr. Greco's practice is limited solely to excellence in aesthetic surgery of the face. If you're interested in learning more about facial liposuction of the chin, cheeks or neck, request a consultation online, or phone the Philadelphia area office of the Eastern Cosmetic Surgery Institute at (610) 664-8830.
Frequently Asked Questions
How is the procedure performed?
After anesthesia has been administered, a small, thin instrument known as a cannula is inserted through a tiny incision in the natural skin fold underneath your chin and/or behind your ears. The cannula passes just beneath your skin, gently dislodging and removing the unwanted pockets of fat. The procedure usually takes approximately 45 minutes.
What can I expect after surgery?
You will experience some swelling and bruising, although this will largely disappear within one to two weeks. More specifically, you can expect 80% of the swelling to be gone after two weeks and the remainder after two months. You may also experience some numbness under the chin, which will decrease as swelling resolves.
When can I return to my usual activities?
Your healing period should take only 1 to 2 weeks, after which you can gradually return to your usual activities.
Will I have any sutures?
Small, delicate sutures under the chin and behind the ear are usually removed within one week.
What results can I expect?
Facial liposuction often provides an immediately gratifying result. If you have good skin elasticity (the ability of the skin to re-conform to the underlying tissues), the newly sculpted contour of the face is readily apparent. Poor skin elasticity, typically seen with aging, usually requires a skin-tightening procedure such as face lifting or neck lifting in addition to facial liposuction.
What are the risks?
Although all surgical procedures carry some risks, they are usually minimal in facial plastic surgery. During your consultation, we will discuss any potential risks as well as ways to avoid them.
