Facial Implants

Augmenting the chin and/or cheeks can create a symmetric, harmonious and balanced facial appearance. If you are interested in cheek or chin augmentation, Philadelphia facial plastic surgeon Dr. Timothy Greco can help you decide whether facial implants are appropriate to meet your cosmetic surgery needs.

Facial augmentation generally falls under one of the following categories:

  • Cheek augmentation is performed with a technique that uses your own body fat for precise structural alterations to provide a natural-looking result.

  • Chin augmentation is performed with a chin implant, which is inserted through a small incision in the natural skin crease under the chin or on the inside of the mouth. These implants are uniquely constructed and customized to each patient's face. The implant is made from a medical-grade material, which is eventually incorporated into the body's own tissues as the healing process occurs.

Facial implant procedures are often performed in conjunction with other surgeries to add the finishing touches to a patient's appearance. Common procedures include rhinoplasty, face lift, or neck liposuction.

Dr. Greco's practice is limited solely to excellence in aesthetic surgery of the face, and he serves patients from Philadelphia and surrounding areas. If you would like to meet with Dr. Greco to discuss facial augmentation, call the Eastern Cosmetic Surgery Institute at (610) 664-8830, or request a consultation online today.

Frequently Asked Questions

What can I expect immediately after the surgery?

For several weeks you will experience minor swelling around the implant location. This normal reaction is the body's way of promoting healing. Usually 80% of the swelling disappears after 2 weeks and another 10% after 2 months. You will also feel some tightness and numbness in the same area, which will usually improve with the swelling.

Will I feel much discomfort?

Mild discomfort may accompany the swelling, but can be easily treated with oral medication.

Is it possible for the implant to move after it is placed?

Immediately following surgery, the skin covering the implant is taped to prevent movement. However, you must not manipulate the implant with your hands and should avoid contact sports of any kind for at least 6 weeks.

What are the risks?

With facial augmentation, it is important to remember that facial asymmetries present before surgery may remain after surgery, although there will be significant improvement. In addition, anytime an implant of any kind (chin, breast, calf, etc.) is placed in the body, the body almost always accepts the implants. On rare occasions, there can be complications. During your consultation, we will discuss these potential risks as well as ways to minimize them as much as possible.
